Environment

The Port Authority of Ceuta is committed to protecting the environment and improving the port surroundings. It introduced its Environmental Management System in accordance with UNE EN ISO 14001:2004 standardin 2006, having been certified by the accredited body “Det Norske Veritas”. The adoption of this Environmental Management System has improved the environmental management aspect of the provision of port services, and specifically the following:

  • Compliance with the applicable legislation and environmental regulations, as well as with other requirements relevant to the Port.
  • Prevention, reduction and the control of the environmental impacts caused by port activities.
  • Continuous improvement by including environmental aspects in the planning, organisation, management and conservation processes of the public port area.
  • Raising awareness about sustainable development and improving the environment among all Port Authority employees.
  • The image of the port, as well as customer and user satisfaction has improved.
  • Improved resource management, a reduction in waste and pollution prevention by using the latest technologies.
  • Introduction of environmental goals and objectives, which include sustainability criteria.

This commitment to the environment is clearly reflected in the Port Authority’s policy that brings together the principles of safety and the environment, which form the basis of its activities.
